Sack catalogue description: Queen Anne walnut claw-and-ball foot armchair exhibiting the mastery of the curvilinear composition unique to the Philadelphia chairmaker, horseshoe seat and balloon back with incurvate stiles, the shell centering the crest is flanked by scrolled volutes; superb shaped arms and arm supports with knuckle terminals, the interlaced splats show the introduction to Chippendale influence, the spooned profile of the back adds to the fluency of the design; fine old patina. ----- Bibliography: Book: American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, 10 vols.
