Sack catalogue description: Chippendale bonnet top chest-on-chest fashioned of plum pudding mahogany, the drawers retain the original pine tree brasses and are flanked by fluted quarter columns on the upper and lower case section, ogee bracket feet; the bonnet with divided blocking is crested by original flame finials with fluted bowls, fine bronze patina. Ex-collection Mr. and Mrs. Mitchel Taradash, Ardsley-on-Hudson, New York. Despite minor construction differences, this chest is an apparent companion with a Townsend-Goddard chest-on-chest descended in the family of George Gibbs II of Newport, Rhode Island, illustrated in American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, vol. 10, p. 2604, pl. P5894. To our knowledge, this is the only pair of Townsend-Goddard chest-on-chests known.
