Mirror glass; mahogany; gilding
Sack catalogue description: Chippendale mahogany and gilt mirror, broken arch top with leaf-carved and gilded cornice molding and silhouetted strapwork in inner arch, original carved and gilded phoenix on plinth fronted by laurel wreath; the original glass bordered by egg and dart-carved gilded border. Made by Stephen Badlam, branded "S. BADLAM" on the base of the backboard; the identification of a mirror of this form and quality as American is important in proving that at least some fine mirrors of this period were made here. ----- Bibliography: Book: American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, 10 vols.
