Florence, St. Maria del Carmine, Brancacci Chapel: Interior

Notes:
The frescoes, carried out by Masolino and Masaccio in the 1420s and completed by Filippino Lippi c. 1481--5, mark a watershed in the history of European art. Originally there were figures of the Four Evangelists (destr.) in the vault (attributed by Vasari to Masolino), scenes of the Temptation of Adam and Eve and the Expulsion from Paradise (by Masolino and Masaccio respectively) on the lateral walls of the entrance and 17 episodes from the Life of St Peter (by Masolino and Masaccio, later added to by Filippino Lippi) in 12 separate picture fields on the lateral and back walls (the back wall is divided by a biforate Gothic window).
