Abstract:
Peasant dress is especially colorful now, but the styles are basically the same as they have been for centuries. A tunic or jerkin is over an old-fashioned chemise. Consistent with the widening silhouette of the period, sleeves are fuller at the top and tighter at the wrists. Leg wear includes gaiters and/or leg wrappings. These accompany the new-style tights, usually made of shaped pieces of fabric. Headwear includes the coif, caps, hoods, and wide-brimmed straws.
