Art Deco skyscraper that forms the centerpiece of Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan. Principal architect was Raymond Hood, working with and leading three architectural firms on a team that included a young Wallace Harrison. Known as the RCA Building until 1988, it is most famous for housing the headquarters of the television network NBC. Now known as the GE Building. The 70-story building is the 10th tallest building in New York City and the 33rd tallest in the United States. It was the first building constructed with the elevators grouped in the central core. It includes an observation deck and the restaurant the Rainbow Room. Opened in 1934, it was the first restaurant to be located in a high-rise setting, designed by French architect Jacques Carlu. It had a slowing rotating dance floor (it was closed in 2009). The east facade on 1250 6th Avenue is known as "1250 Avenue of the Americas".
