Notes:
The titular church of the Medici family, S Lorenzo is regarded by many as the quintessential Renaissance church. Brunelleschi's involvement probably ceased after completion of the Old Sacristy, and his supervision of the work was thus limited; the raw brickwork of the west front still lacks a façade, and even his responsibility for the design itself has been challenged in favour of Michelozzo. The new church of S Lorenzo, designed on a Latin-cross plan and completed in the 1460s, reflects Renaissance preoccupations with balance and harmony.
