Sack catalogue description: Pair of Hepplewhite mahogany serpentine-front knife boxes, the pilasters are inlaid with vases of leaves and flowers and oval floral paterae, the lids are centered by large oval paterae with vase and floral inlay while the lids and cases are bordered by tooth inlay; the cases are supported on ogee feet and retain their original slotted interiors and fine mellow patina, one of the finest pair of inlaid knife boxes we have had the privilege to own. New York or English.
