Sack catalogue description: Chippendale mahogany tall clock, a beautiful proportioned example with raised panels of ogival outline in deep relief on base panel and waist door, the door panel is particularly dramatic with its tightly knit scrolling and fine figured grain; the base and waist are flanked by fluted quarter columns, the broken arch top has an open fret scrollboard and a fretwork frieze below, an original vase-shaped finial completes the composition; the hood encloses an enamel moon phase dial, original finish of warmth and mellowness, the case retains the original handwritten label of the casemaker, James McDowell, from Duck's Creek, Smyrna, Delaware. ----- Bibliography: Book: American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, 10 vols.
