Sack catalogue description: Chippendale cherry tall clock with scroll top, scrollboard of open punchwork pattern, brass spandreled dial inscribed "Isaac Brokaw–E(lizabeth) Town"; fine case with gadrooned base border and chamfered corners, original finish, the case bears the label of Matthew Egerton, Jr., New Brunswick, N.J.; it is listed as "No. 2" and priced at "£9.1.6," dated May 10, 1792. This documented example of the combined efforts of New Jersey's best known cabinetmaker and clockmaker rates as one of its finest products; the punchwork scrollboard is associated with Egerton's shop and appears on several documented or labeled Egerton cases.
