Sack catalogue description: Queen Anne walnut bonnet-top highboy, in a superb state of preservation, the original patina shows the warmth and depth of several generations of maturity; the brass handles with spurred bales, the flame finials and even the pendant acorn drops are the originals; this highboy is a classic expression of the finest Massachusetts formation, with deeply-carved fans in the upper and lower case sections and the desirable feature of top end drawers shaped to follow the arch outline. This highboy descended in the Decatur-Storer families; it was purchased by us from direct descendants. The contemporary chalk inscription on the backboard, which reads "Marblehead," suggests the chest's origin in that center. ----- Bibliography: Book: American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, 10 vols.
